Life, Law, and the Pursuit of Happiness

Friday No. 2

Hello friends,

I don't know about you but for me, this week was a bit trying. Monday was 'Blue Monday' - the so called 'saddest day of the year' and it definitely coloured my week. Toronto snapped back to colder weather (hello -20's), school work started adding up, and wedding planning took a turn for the stressful. Ugh.

I'm being dramatic - of course it wasn't all bad! Here are 4 things that made (or enhanced!) my week!

A goals dinner party setup on The Everygirl
  1. AZ Getaway - I spoke to this above but this week wedding planning was just a bit stressful. The church we'd originally planned on getting married at just isn't able to accommodate the amount of guests who will be at our wedding, and I finally agreed that we should start considering alternative venues. It was hard letting go of the wedding vision I'd originally had, but I'm gradually falling in love with the idea of hosting all our guests at a large church. A special perk - I get to fly down to Arizona for a quick getaway to tour 3 alternative church options, and meet with the Parish wedding coordinators. I hadn't planned on being back in Arizona until mid February - and I'm so excited that I'll be able to see Conner sooner than planned!
  2. Supper Club - One of the things that has made living with Jen these past 3 years so enjoyable is our shared love of hosting. Since moving into our apartment we have consistently prioritized celebrating, and we love giving our friends the chance to gather together. Summer 2016 we hosted a weekly 'Supper Club', at which 2 friends would arrive to our home with an appetizer and bottle of wine, and we would provide a main dish and dessert. Supper Club Thursdays became a treasured part of our routine, but gradually faded away as our schedules became more hectic. This week we temporarily hosted supper club, and it was great to get back into hospitality. On the menu? Shredded chicken thigh cabbage wraps - a slightly more durable version of the oh so trendy lettuce wrap.
  3. Post-Pop Happy Hour - I mentioned this on my last Friday post but I recently registered for 30 days of unlimited classes at PopPhysique (week 2 going strong!). I posted a pic of the studio's iconic 'J'adore Barre' sign on my Instagram story, and my sisters college roommate reached out to me letting me know she lived just around the corner. On Wednesday she attended a 6:30PM class with me, and we headed to a local tavern afterwards to reward ourselves with wine. It was so lovely to catch up with an old friend, and I genuinely had the best time reconnecting.
  4. Sorelle - I gave this gorgeous cafe a shoutout on my (non)definitive guide to Toronto's coffee shops but its so pretty it deserves another shoutout. Two law school friends and I spent an afternoon eating pastries and drinking coffee at the tiny Yorkville shop, and the cafe's cute decor and sweet treats were the perfect fix for the Monday blues.
Have a lovely weekend!
